NYC311 states that a new cellar door on a City sidewalk requires DOT revocable consent. The agreement carries insurance and annual fee obligations. We discuss the approval path before scheduling fabrication; structural changes may also require a registered design professional and DOB review.
DOT design guidance calls for flush mounting, a slip-resistant surface and placement against the building line outside the pedestrian access route. What is a sidewalk cellar door?

Can you replace an existing door without replacing the whole sidewalk?

Does NYC require approval for a new sidewalk cellar door?
